Auditions

Cascade Symphony is a non-professional orchestra with an enviable reputation for the highest standards of excellence.  Members are accomplished musicians devoted to classical music who pursue careers in other fields and perform purely for the joy of it. Based in South Snohomish County, the symphony rehearses on Monday evenings from September to May. Five concerts per season occur on Mondays in October, December, January, March and May, with dress rehearsals on the Sundays immediately preceding the concerts. A children’s concert occurs in February on a Saturday afternoon. Annual auditions are held in August, but individual auditions may be arranged.

Regular and substitute positions are available in the violin, viola and bass sections.

Auditions will be held on Aug. 21 from 7-9 p.m.

String Auditions

Auditions for vacancies in the violin and viola sections or for the string substitute list will be held by appointment.

VIOLIN

Audition Requirements:

1. Two minutes of a solo of your choice
2. Excerpts:
   
   • Mendelssohn – Midsummer Night’s Dream, Scherzo (p1)
   • Mozart – Symphony No. 39, 4^th movement (mm 1-41)
   • Brahms – Symphony No. 1, 1^st movement (mm 1-29)

NOTE: PARTS HAVE NO BOWINGS OR FINGERINGS MARKED. PLEASE PROVIDE YOUR OWN.

VIOLA

Audition Requirements:

1. Exposition from the first movement of any major viola concerto or comparable work, (e.g Mozart- Symphonie Concertante for Violin and Viola or a Bach Suite).
2. Excerpts
   
   • Rossini – La Gazza Ladra
3. One of the following excerpts :
   
   • Elgar - Cockaigne Overture
   • Berlioz  -  Symphonie Fantastique
   • Wagner –  Die Meistersinger
4. One of the following excerpts :

Audition Requirements:

1. Two minutes of a cello solo demonstrating skills above fourth position
2. Excerpts:
   
   • Tchaikovsky –Symphony No.6
   • Mendelssohn – Italian Symphony
3. One of the following excerpts:
   
   • Brahms –Symphony No.2
   • Brahms –Symphony No.3
